NUVOC II v Su Ragazzi II  November 08

Su II match National League 2
T

This weeks league match was an important point in SU II's season. With last weeks defeat in the cup to troon still fresh in our minds a win and only a win would be enough today.

'Supersub' Curran come back to the team this week, but offsetting rather than setting on this occasion. This left 'disco' in that place we all love, in the middle. The rest of the squad all lined up in their usual positions and were supported on and from the bench by gangster, umy and callum (no nickname yet, suggestions welcome).

We got off to a good start and took a convincing lead in the first, but some tough serving and scramble defence from NUVOC brought the set to an exciting climax. Ultimately nerve and some decent hitting from the outside proved stronger from Su. This momentum almost carried through to the second and third sets uninterupted, however the usual ebbs and flows of a match left both the second and third sets close.

The difference on the day for the 3-0 scoreline for Su was the system and our ability to stick to it. Sure there were moments of both triumph and failure in our execution, but at the crucial moments we stuck together and worked as a team, played the system and won. A stark contrast to being almost punch drunk against troon. We need to remember those moments of adversity and concentrate on what is needed at that time. When we do, we will beat the troons of the league. We work harder than anyone, weve just got to show it when it matters.

Well done also to the team in the 4th and 5th sets. With all supporting players appearing and nearly carrying off the 5-0 win we were looking for.

The 1st team travelling support said their highlights were gangsters outright kill from 4 and Umy forgetting he was the a setter for a moment.

All in all a good victory and a good day for Su. More prescribed by the doctor for next week!
