Girl and Woman...

Lynn Edwards started travelling to Scotstoun to practice with Su Ragazzi when she was fourteen…….she made the journey to practice (40 minutes each way if there’s no trafic) three times a week because she loved volleyball.  She made the journey with her pal Amanda, and their parents helped with the arrangemenrs as did the club and their coach, and all it took was for the two youngsters to demonstrate the highest levels of commitment and dedication again and again and again……. (and pay the cost of the journeys of course).

Niether Lynn not Amanda thought their efforts were  exceptional, it was just what was expected, and what they did.   They shared the practice gym with some outstanding role models, players like Sandra Grubb, Maragaret Ann Fleming, and Lesley Robb…..the year Lynn and Amanda started at the club the Suettes won the Chamnpionship with the three players who were mentioned playing at the top of their games.  And the the youngsters watched and learned.

Time moved on as it should and the roles of the stars changed…..Sandra went on to coach the Scottish National Team, Lelsey moved to Austria  to play volleyball professionally, Marageret Ann is now the Chief Executive Officer of the SVA, and still the young players watched and learned……..

.

This year the Suettes repeated their success of winning the championship.  Lynn is the starting setter for the club, and also for the national team.  Amanda played again this year after taking a year out for her studies (learning to be a Doctor is tough) and Emma is a youngster on the bench watching, being guided by some outstanding role models…..Su Ragazzi is all about the people who populate the Club, and we are so very lucky to have such good people……girl and woman, man and boy.
