On Saturday 26th September, Su Ragazzi made a welcome return to Coltness High School for the first home league matches of the season. The club were looking to bounce back from last weeks poor performances against their Glasgow rivals Mets.

The first match of the day saw the Su-ettes take on City of Edinburgh, a team who always provide a stiff test. The girls were again missing some key players, but Lindsay Coburn made a welcome return to the team.

The game was tight. It was exciting! And the Su girls won!

The sets were all close, with the girls saving set point in the 2nd set to gain the momentum to close out the match 3-0. Laura McReadie again displayed why she is the Scotland libero, holding the team together with a solid display of passing. And Lynn Edwards used the passes to deliver a thoughful and solid offence.

The 2nd match of the day saw the 2nd team up against Beacon who had made the long journey down from Keith. And after the 1st set, they might have wished they had stayed at home. Quite simply the Su boys were devastating! Kris Yuill took his training form and displayed it on the court, with everything he hit finding the Beacon floor. He was closely followed by Andrew McGregor who displayed a level of play that pushes him closer to a 1st team slot. 1st set was over at 25-10.

The Beacon side did what they always do. They battled hard to ensure the next sets were closer. They applied pressure and the Su boys teetered. But when it was needed, they found the resolve to push on and win. The boys took the win 4-1 to continue their good start to the season.

In the last match of the day, newly promoted Bon Accord travelled down to play the City of Glasgow Ragazzi boys. With no fewer than 7 internationalist involved in the game, it promised to be a belter! And it was!

The City boys found some form against an excellent Bon Accord side. And being 2-0 up and having a 16-9 lead you would be forgiven for thinking the game was over.

A change of setter for Bon Accord, with Steven Milne coming in to set, saw their fortunes change. The city boys blew a golden chance to win the game at 24-22.

The game came down to the wire, and Bon Accord took it 3-2. The City boys were gutted and questions will be asked about what went wrong.

But nothing can take away from what was a top level match. The hitting was powerful, the passing solid, the blocking at times was superb and both teams competed. Well done to Bon Accord, and lets hope the City boys bounce back quick!
